A blender food processor combo is a great kitchen appliance for those seeking to save space in the kitchen, while still be able to enjoy the benefits of having a blender as well as a food processor.
But the combination of a blender and food processor is not always the best choice. Ultimately this depends on what you are planning to do with it, but also what you’re NOT going to do with it.
Let’s have a look at some of the best blender food processor combo options available, and whether they are the right choice for your kitchen needs.
Best Blender Food Processor Combo:
What Is a Blender Food Processor Combo?
As the name suggests, a blender food processor combo kitchen appliance is literally a blender and a food processor in one.
It can blend smoothies and soups, and it can process more solid foods into nicely chopped and sliced meals and dips, among other things.
What Can a Food Processor Do That a Blender Cannot?
A food processor can be used for things like chopping, slicing, dicing, grinding, shredding and grating foods, in a quick and convenient manner.
Food processors come in different sizes and with different components, but at its core, a food processor consists of a motor, a bowl with lid and tube, and a set of attachments.
If the mixture you’re processing is dry and solid, then a food processor will typically be the better option than a blender.
Blenders on the other hand are much better suitable for dealing with soft foods such as fruits and vegetables and turning them into liquids.
So if you want to do all these things with one kitchen appliance and save space, a blender food processor combo is a great solution.
But it’s crucial that you pick the right machine, and avoid buying a machine that is not a good blender and is also not a good food processor.
- Includes slicer disc, shredding disc, new chopping blade, detachable stem,...
- Brushed Stainless Steel housing for enhanced durability
- Lexan work bowl virtually shatterproof, dishwasher-safe
Perhaps Consider a Quality Blender Instead?
You also need to consider what you’re really going to do with it. Personally, I love a good quality blender food processor combo, and I used one for years.
But right now, I prefer to use my Vitamix 5200 blender, which is able to do a lot of things that a food processor can do, but obviously not everything.
A powerful blender does not only create the best smoothies, it can also easily create foods such as nut butters and soups.
- Program Settings: Five program settings (for Smoothies, Hot Soups, Dips &...
- Touchscreen Controls give the machine a sleek silhouette and are easily wiped...
- You're in Control: Variable Speed Control and Pulse feature let you manually...
Purchasing Criteria to Consider
Here are some things to consider when looking for a good quality blender food processor combo kitchen appliance.
Modern blenders and food processors are quite powerful machines. And while power certainly isn’t the most important factor when selecting a new kitchen appliance such as blenders and food processors, the motor can actually have a significant impact on overall performance.
The top 3 machines we have picked in this list have motors that range from 1200 to 1500 watt, which is quite powerful. Anything lower than 1000 typically means you’re most likely going to sacrifice performance.
The size of the processor bowl and blender container are obviously also important. If they’re too small, you end up repeating manual work. They also don’t need to be supersized, which would mean they take up too much space in your kitchen.
Another thing to look out for is, if they come with several bowls and containers in different sizes. This can turn out to be very handy depending on portion sizes you’re preparing, and whether you want to take it with you outside.
The more features and functions the better is what you may think. But that doesn’t always hold true unfortunately.
The way I see it, the more features cramped into one machine often means that the overall quality suffers. More is not always better. Similarly, less sometimes really does mean more.
So look for the presence of features that you think are essential, and don’t focus on appliances that have a ton of features that you don’t really need.
Personally, I find having pre-programmed settings useful, but also having dedicated food processing functions, such as shredding, slicing and pulsing.
While most modern kitchen appliances last a very long time, it’s still good to consider the warranty term. This often also says something about the confidence manufacturers have in their own products.
Personally, I never let the warranty decide my purchasing decision, but I do take note.
5. Personal Needs
As mentioned further above, the most important thing is to ask yourself what you’re planning on doing with a blender food processor combo.
Sometimes buying two separate machines can be a better choice, and sometimes buying a top quality blender is the better solution for your personal needs. Or if blending is not really your thing, buy a dedicated food processor instead.
6. Other Features
Other things to look out for are safety features (i.e. auto-lock), noise levels, overall size (does it fit on your kitchen cabinet), and design.
Design is an interesting one. Some people love fancy LED display settings, while others prefer a more old-fashioned look. For example, one reason I love my Vitamix 5200 so much is that it has a simplistic design, but its performance is incredible.
3 Best Blender Food Processor Combo Machines
Here is my top 3 best blender food processor combos. They are not the cheapest, but still very affordable, while not sacrificing on performance.
1. Ninja Mega Kitchen System 1500
Perhaps the best in class when it comes to blender food processor combos is the Ninja Mega Kitchen System 1500.
As the name suggests, it comes with a powerful 1500-watt motor base. The motor allows the blender pitcher to easily pulverize ice, tough vegetables, and whole fruits, and the processor bowl to easily chop and make dough without issues.
The blender pitcher has a generous capacity of 72 oz, while the processor bowl has a generous 8-cups size. In addition, this model includes two 16 oz Nutri Ninja cups with easy to-go lids.
If you’re looking for a functional and powerful blender food processor combo without spending an absolute fortune, the Ninja Mega Kitchen System 1500 is most definitely a good choice.
Ninja Mega Kitchen System 1500:
- 1500-watt motor
- 72 oz pitcher
- 8-cups processor bowl
- two extra 16 oz cups
2. Oster Pro 1200
With a 1200 watt motor, this Oster Pro model is perhaps not as powerful as the Ninja Mega above, but with its Dual Direction Blade technology it performs really well both as a blender and as a food processor.
The Oster Pro 1200 features 7 speeds and 3 pre-programmed settings for common uses, taking some of the guesswork out of blending and food processing.
It comes with an 8-cup sized, BPA-free Tritan plastic container with wide top, and a 5-cup food processor bowl with slicing and shredding blades that can make delicious dips and chop veggies with ease.
What I also like about the Oster Pro is its design. It doesn’t look as bulky as the Ninja Mega Kitchen Pro for example, and it is also slightly smaller in size and weighs less. This does of course mean that it has less capacity.
Oster Pro 1200:
- 1200-watt motor
- 8-cups jar
- 5-cups processor bowl
3. Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl Duo
This second Ninja model in this list of blender food processor combos is a versatile machine that offers two main functions – blending and food processing – on the one base.
It’s marketed a bit differently though, without using the words blending and food processing. Instead, it promotes the conceptual terms Nutrient Extraction and Nutrient Fusion.
The Pro Extractor Blades Assembly (the blender part) breaks down whole foods, seeds, ice, and nuts and turns them into nutrient-rich smoothies, shots and purees.
The Nutri Bowl (the food processor part) on the other hand, creates fusions of foods, bringing together nutrients from various fruits, vegetables, and other foods and turning them into meals, dips and desserts, or even dough.
One of its main features is the Auto-iQ technology, which takes the guesswork out of blending and food processing with intelligent programs that do the work for you.
Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl Duo:
- 1200-watt motor
- one Nutri Bowl
- two 24 oz Nutri Ninja Cups
From the above list of blender food processors, the Ninja Mega Kitchen System 1500 is probably the best value for money, with great performance and versatility.
A blender food processor combo certainly isn’t for everyone. I used to have one, and I was happy with it, but I found that my Vitamix 5200 was able to do everything I wanted my blender to do. And that includes creating delicious smoothies, nut butters and soups.
Of course, with a good quality blender food processor combo you can do more than that, but I found that I wasn’t using it to its full potential. So rather than using a combo machine, I now simply stick to my powerful blender.
At the end of the day, it’s a personal choice. It all depends on what you want to do with it, and if you’re planning on doing that consistently for years to come. A combo machine can be a great choice, as long as you use it for what’s designed to do.
