I don’t know about you, but I love drinking a smoothie in the morning, either with or without a cup of coffee. A freshly made smoothie gives me the energy I need to prepare for the day.
One of those smoothies I love drinking in the morning with breakfast is this refreshing and tasty blueberry spinach smoothie.

Blueberry Spinach Smoothie Ingredients
The number one ingredient in this smoothie is, of course, blueberries, with spinach being a close second.
I also add a banana (my second-most favorite smoothie ingredient) for a bit more sweetness.
Ingredients:
- 1 large cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
- 1 large banana
- 1 leaf fresh mint (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
- 1 tbsp fresh minced ginger (optional)
- 1 tbsp flax seeds (optional)
Smoothie Add-Ons
As you can see, there are a few optional ingredients that you can experiment with to add more nutrients to an otherwise already nutritious drink.
Whenever I prepare a smoothie, I always consider adding extra ingredients to maximize the nutritional value of the smoothie without sacrificing the taste too much.
Some of my favorite smoothie add-on ingredients are ginger, lemon, mint, and chia seeds. Experimenting with these extra ingredients is important because they can significantly impact flavor and texture.
In this particular blueberry spinach smoothie recipe, I do like to add a bit of ginger, lemon, and mint, to create that extra zing, while also enjoying the powerful health benefits they offer.
But it’s important not to add too much; otherwise, the smoothie will lose the flavors of its core ingredients, blueberry and spinach.
Verdict
If you need a bit of a push in the morning to get you energized and ready for the day, then this blueberry spinach smoothie is yours to try.
The idea behind this smoothie recipe is to make the most of the nutritional benefits that blueberries offer.
And because they also taste delicious, they always work really well in smoothies when mixed with other fruits and vegetables.
Blueberries are particularly rich in anthocyanin, a flavonoid with potent antioxidant capacity which can help us protect against age-related illnesses.
While this smoothie will taste great at any time of day, I particularly love drinking it first thing in the morning. It’s just delicious, and it gives me the energy I need.
Yes, I do absolutely love my good-old coffee in the morning, but this smoothie with all the right flavors and nutrients is an excellent substitute!
