Kale and spinach are two of my favorite vegetables to add to my smoothie recipes, because of their strong nutritional benefits but also because of their somewhat neutral flavors.
When you combine these two together and mix it up with avocado and fresh fruit, you will end up with a super nutritious and very green looking smoothie.
This particular kale, spinach and avocado green smoothie recipe is one of my classics that I like to prepare whenever I need a healthy energy boost!
Please find the printable version of this recipe further below.
Ingredients
With kale, spinach and avocado as the core ingredients, this green smoothie can’t get much greener and more nutritious.
Here’s the full list of goodies that go into this smoothie.
Ingredients:
- 50 grams (or 1 large cup) kale
- 50 grams baby spinach
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 large banana (fresh or frozen)
- 4 strawberries (optional)
- water + ice cubes
Verdict
This kale smoothie has a great balance between vegetables and fruits, making it taste very refreshing and not too green.
Not surprisingly, kale has some powerful health benefits, which is the main reason for me to often use kale in my smoothies, alongside spinach and other leafy greens.
Drink this in the morning as a healthy wake-me-up breakfast smoothie, or in the afternoon to fight that nasty 3pm afternoon energy crash.
You can add as much water and ice cubes as you wish, depending on how thick you would like your smoothie to be.
Keep in mind though that avocados do thicken smoothies quite a fair bit, so it’s a good idea to be generous with the water.
Otherwise, perhaps add some watermelon because that has a high water content too. Personally, I prefer my smoothies not too sweet, but that’s ultimately a personal preference.
You can also add some flax seeds or chia seeds to make this smoothie even more nutritious. And add a bit of lemon juice if you would like a somewhat sharper taste.
Oh, and did you know you can also blend the seed of an avocado? Check out my avocado seed smoothie recipe for more details!
